I saw the Devil
The stars of Old Boy and The Good, The Bad and the Weird face off in this gruesome thriller. I’ve been a little depressed after my break up and then just when I’m starting to feel better/numb I decide to watch this movie.
Way to go dumbass.
Korea has been putting out some great films the ones that I mentioned before along with the comedy Daytime Drinking and another thriller Chaser.
What do we glean from the grotesque movie? Obviously it has a draw for they made quite a few Saw movies and movie history is littered with the horror films containing gore. If I recall it right this movie was pretty singular. We’ve all had instances where somebody found us at a disadvantage and subsequently we’ve wanted revenge. Well this movie features the protagonist taking great lengths to see that the antagonist suffers in repayment for the most heinous crime imaginable. It’s also an interesting character study for motives vs. actions. If your motives were honorable can your horrible actions be justified? Are you any better than the devil you saw?
So anyone that is interested in Korean cinema, thrillers or maybe wants to test the mettle of their stomach, give I Saw The Devil a try. It’s available on netflix and your nearest illegal online vender.
