A day in the life
of a strong man fighting his way out of debt.
For all his mass and brawn he can never retrieve
the true love that he lost long ago.

The little girl he called daughter
A brunette when happy and a blond when sad.
He sung to her during the day and read to her at night
of wondrous lands far removed from the industrial city
in which they resided in their own niche tucked away.
Away from prying eyes of slacks and tackers.

Green fields and lush flowers he told but
the girl pictured shattered glass and twisted multicolored wire
for it was all she knew.
She loved the man she called Father
He was so very big and so very tall.
His sad eyes she loved most of all.

The arcade in which she laughed and played
flashed emotions and thoughts
she twirled and danced while her father entranced
failed to protect the poor girl from her affliction
An affliction that unknowingly plagued and tortured her.

Tall dark shadowing figures took her away
Away from the man she called Father
His eyes were sad for a reason.
Those eyes fill with tears to this day.

He sits and watches from his chair
out to the purple laced sea
waiting for a second chance that never came
to see the girl he called daughter once more
And the smile that smile the he adored.
